PSG Edges Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Lift French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening trophy on fourteen different times.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward win in the showdown between the French league champions and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele found the net in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side struck two times late to seize a shock advantage. First, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial equaliser in the dying moments to send the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping decisive kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 4-1 shootout win.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the past 13 years.
